A sketch--fragment

SKETCHES OF VEHICLES AND SPACESHIPS

Looking at a picture taken in a foreign city you can tell a particular region of the world by the means people travel. In a SF story, the first thing you notice are strange vehicles. At the first glance you know that it's about the future.

Here is a chosen set of sketches of various kinds of vehicles and machines I used to draw for my comics. Some are about the size of a small plane, but some are spaceships as huge as a city. “Inventing” a new spaceship or a fighter I was usually (but certainly not always) more concerned about its functional aspect than about the visual impression.

When I look back at those sketches of mine from an engineer's perspective, I'm barely impressed with the design. I'd simply do it in a different way… What I like about them is that I remember building a world in which such flying machines used to have its logical place.
